Annual Scandinavian Festival
April 19-20, Thousand Oaks, CA

On the campus of California Lutheran University .....A wonderful, very big festival. Nathan Muus will be joiking, Donna Matson will give lectures about Sami and Scandinavian genealogy, Eric Bergland will be at the Sami Camp also with his demonstration of Sami and Nordic knife crafts, among other events.

16th Annual Norway Day
May 3 and 4, Herbst Pavillion, San Francisco, CA

This is the only major Scandinavian festival in the United States sponsored and promoted by the Norwegian government, along with local Norwegian organizations. A chance to sample what's new as well as traditional, from Norway, see some live music performances, and visit the Sami Camp!

FinnFest 2008
July 23 - 27, Duluth, Minnesota

At least 7,000 people are expected at this immensely fun annual event, held somewhere different in Finnish North America every year. This year, on the waters of Lake Superior, expect to visit reindeer at the Sami camp, and hear some joiking. As well, a number of cultural presentations will have Sami input.

September 2002 Meetings are held (September and October) in Anchorage and Bethel Alaska regarding the planned traveling exhibit “The Sami- Reindeer People of Alaska” to begin next year. Family members of the Alaska Sami community as well as other interested people including museum staff and Eskimo family members whose families were part of the original Reindeer Project met at the Native Heritage Center, Anchorage, The Anchorage Museum, and Yupik Museum in Bethel Alaska. Everyone is really excited about this project! The Alaska Humanities Forum and the Seventh Generation Fund have given the project planning grants to get going.
